We certainly hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that your planning for the Holiday Season is well under way.  We also hope that you are planning a fun winter getaway (perhaps even a New Year’s Getaway) with us and to the Brainerd Lakes Area.   Here at the resort we have had a little quiet time since the last weekend of October when we pretty much close until the start of our winter season on December 26.   A few of us were lucky to slip away for a bit of vacation during the fall.   John & Vicki made their annual trip to Sanibel Island, Florida and Tom & Jennie enjoyed a wonderful cruise to the Caribbean in November.  Dave managed to get to South Dakota to enjoy some archery hunting with his son Joe and nephew Dan and even came away with a nice mule deer this year.  During this time of the year we start to go through every unit and do the deep cleaning, maintenance, carpet cleaning and even some painting.  This year the pool and hot tub got a nice new coat of paint and we also did a matching update to 6140 like the one we did on 6148 last winter (which of course started with a frozen water line that flooded the unit!)   One thing for sure is that getting ready for the next season never really ends and there is always something going on.  Of course, as we get ready for the winter season, we also must get that winter feeling going, which means lights on the sign, lamp posts, trees and bushes, to offer some light to those enjoying the outdoors (it gets dark around here)! With the drop-in temperature we hope that we will soon begin the process of getting the pond ready for the ice-skating season and of course will bring back an item from last year that was a big hit, the flaming and crackling pond side campfire on Friday and Saturday evenings.   Mark had prepped all the cross-country ski trails, which means trimming brush and cutting trees, mowing, and of course, getting all the signs up for both ski and snowmobile trails.  On December 1 we were blessed with a big early season snow and managed to come away with 15” of new snow on top of 5” we had gotten right before Thanksgiving!  The snow brings a lot of excitement to the entire Brainerd Lakes and Nisswa area and goes well with the Christmas lighting that took place in Nisswa to kick off the winter.  Our winter special is a good one again and includes New Years, stay 1-Night at our regular winter rate and you stay up to an additional 3-Nights at ½ price.  With the early snow, dropping temps to freeze up the lakes (and ice skating pond) and fun things happening in the area from the Jaycees Winter Ice Fishing Extravaganza to the Gull Lake Frozen Four, there is always something going on….however, as many of you know, Kavanaugh’s isn’t a big resort with dozens of things happening, in fact, it’s a quiet and relaxing place and sometimes that is what a person needs.  So, don’t think you have to do too much.  Enjoy our indoor pool, a warm fireplace or just take in some dining or maybe even a local area brewery like Roundhouse or Jack Pine.  We do hope to see you soon and we certainly will be thinking of all our many friends during the Holiday Season and wish each of you a very blessed and joyful time with friends and family.

Happy Holidays and we hope to see you soon!!!!
